Traineeship: the trainee must possess a higher education degree obtained within the last two years, or must be pursuing a higher education degree and must have a trainee agreement with a Maltese entity or company that is allowed to host trainees. Depending on the country of residence, a short-stay visa might be required. Once arrived in Malta, the trainee must apply for a residence permit with Identità Malta which has to be endorsed by the host entity. A series of documents need to be submitted to Jobsplus. This includes amongst others a tripartite contract between student, institution and employer. Jobsplus is also the entity that provides the trainee with a training allowance based on the National Minimum Wage. Volunteering: The scheme for youth volunteering is the ‘Youth Voluntary Work Scheme’, which offers the possibility to young Maltese nationals or local residents (16-30 years old) to do some volunteering both in-country and abroad in the framework of a volunteering organisation. If non-EU citizens want to volunteer in Malta, they can apply through the EU ‘Mobility Project for Young People: Voluntary Projects’ scheme, provided that they have an agreement with the volunteering entity/organisation. If a visa is required, it must be acquired before the arrival in Malta. The residence permit, if required, must be applied for once in Malta. Students: The prospective student must be enrolled in a higher education institution, or admitted to pursue a full-time course of study that leads to a higher education qualification (the course must correspond to MQRIC level 5 and/or above), and that obtains a residence permit. Students that wish to attend a course that falls under MQRIC level 1 to level 4 are also admitted. If the TCN student studies in Malta for longer than 90 days, s/he can apply for an employment licence after their study visa is granted. They are required to continue attending their classes for at least 15 hours a week, and can work only for a maximum of 20 hours a week. The employment application must be submitted to Jobsplus and the employer is required to fill a form as well. If the student changes jobs, s/he needs to apply for a new licence with their new employer
